This winter, I had the pleasure of spending a magical evening photographing my friends Emma and Devin right on the frozen Portage Canal. There’s something truly captivating about the Keweenaw Peninsula (even in winter!), especially when bathed in the warm hues of the ‘golden hour.’

Now, imagine sharing that gorgeous light with a couple whose love for each other matches the scene’s stunning beauty. Emma and Devin Raasio, two good friends of mine, decided to brave the cold and join me for a couple’s photoshoot on the ice.

Their love story is the kind that warms your heart, especially on a crisp Michigan winter’s day. They share an easy-going spirit and a deep bond rooted in their shared faith in Christ. Let me tell you, the love and respect they have for each other is something exceptional to behold. When you hear them tell the story of how they met, it’s truly amazing to see how God has woven their stories together for his glory.

We were blessed with a perfect light – a rarity during our harsh winters. As a photographer in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, these are the moments I live for. The warmth of the setting sun against the crisp, icy backdrop was nothing short of breathtaking.
