ABOUT

My path to wedding photography began early, growing up in a creative, hands-on environment where making something meaningful for others was simply how work was done. That experience shaped not only how I photograph, but how I show up for the people I work with.

Now, I combine a background in design, a love of the outdoors, and a calm, attentive approach to create photographs that feel considered, honest, and deeply personal.

Meet your photographer: Erin Billman

Thoughtful photography, shaped by a life in creative work

Specifically, my dad’s print shop. It was where art and creativity turned into something tangible, and where I could hear the presses still running when I went to bed at night.

Because I was exposed to an artistic business from such an early age, creating something customized to someone’s vision has always felt absolutely natural.

My approach to your wedding photography started long ago above a local print shop

I learned the technical aspects of photography while earning a communication & design degree in college at Michigan Tech, working on everything from Winter Carnival to underwater research projects to headshots. After years in the marketing and design world, though, I felt drawn back to the type of creative business I grew up around.

Now, I get to use my artistic side, project management skills, and love of the outdoors to work with couples like you to turn your vision into something you can hold in your hands. And that’s a pretty cool thing, I think.

I grew up on the Keweenaw Peninsula, a land that literally juts into Lake Superior, meaning snowy winters and the most stunning summers you can imagine. Living here, it’s easy to see why people like you fall in love with the U.P. and decide to get married here.

So easy, in fact, that my husband Joseph and I got married here too! We’ve made our home here where the forests give way to the water, and it is a huge part of our life together. In the summer, you might find us out on the water or exploring the area’s amazing mountain biking trails. In the winter, find us out on cross country skis or appreciating those winter sunsets.

“She was so present in our day. She didn't miss anything! Looking back at our photos, we can truly relive the day from beginning to end because she captured every small detail, and that means so much.”

I’m based right here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but travel is an important part of my life. I’ve been north to Iceland, south to Patagonia, and places in between too.

No matter where your wedding is taking you, I’d be excited to come along for the adventure! Reach out and let’s talk about it!
